All in-house crews
Every move is done by our own movers. No referrals, no random subcontractors showing up at your door.
The Queen City of the Trails is a mix of Truman-era streets, Square parking rules, and easier east-side driveways. Book Local Movers sends our own crew—not a subcontractor—whether you are near the City of Independence core or heading out toward 291.
We are not a lead-gen site. Independence, MO jobs stay on our trucks with our payroll movers.
Every move is done by our own movers. No referrals, no random subcontractors showing up at your door.
Friendly, professional, and trained the same way no matter where the job is. Independence gets the same quality as everywhere else.
What we quote is what you pay. No surprise add-ons or fuel charges sneaking in at the end of move day.
Talk to an actual person before move day. Need to add an item or change a time? Just call — we are here.
We do not partner with random local moving companies. The mover who shows up at your door is one of ours — trained the same way, held to the same standards, and someone our office actually knows by name.
Subcontractor roulette is common in moving; we avoided it on purpose. Independence customers get accountable, in-house teams with the same equipment standards every time.
You book us, we move you. The crew is on our team — not someone we hand the job off to.
Every mover is trained in-house on wrapping, lifting, stairs, and customer care. Same playbook, every job.
Questions before, during, or after the move? You are talking to the same company that is doing the work.
Independence is not a copy of a new Johnson County subdivision. This is the Queen City of the Trails—the jumping-off point for the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California routes—and that history still shows up on move day. Streets around Independence Square and the Truman Home were never designed for a 26-foot box truck. East Independence, out toward Jackson Drive and Highway 291, is a different job: wider lots, newer apartments, and room to stage. Book Local Movers runs both with the same in-house crew. You book us. We show up. No referral mill, no mystery subcontractors.
If you need city services, start with the City of Independence. If you want the story of the place—Truman Library, trails museums, SantaCaliGon, the Square—Visit Independence is the visitor bureau. We use those same landmarks as dispatch language: near the Square, off Noland, east of 291, Truman neighborhood. That is how we send the right truck instead of guessing from a ZIP code alone.
Local references we plan around: visitindependence.com for Square, trails, and event weekends; independencemo.gov for utilities, neighborhoods, and civic buildings such as Municipal Commons.
The Truman neighborhood sits northwest of the Square, roughly east of River Boulevard, west of Pleasant Street, south of 24 Highway, and north of Truman Road. The city describes it as a National Historic Landmark District: tree-lined streets, Queen Anne and Folk Victorian houses, Kansas City Shirtwaists, bungalows, and later ranches and split-levels. It is walkable to the Square and unusual because people still live in those homes next to a National Park Service site. For movers, that means antiques, plaster walls, narrow stairs, brick walks, tight curb space, and trucks that cannot always sit at the front door. Send photos of the staircase and where you think a truck can legally park.
East Independence—especially 64057 around Independence Municipal Commons at 20201 E. Jackson Drive, Centerpoint Medical Center near 39th Street, and the I-70 / Highway 291 corridors—usually gives us a driveway or a wider apartment lot. Those jobs still need a plan (elevator windows, HOA gates, a long carry from a back lot), but they rarely have the brick-street squeeze of the historic core.
Independence Square itself is compact and busy. Street parking is time-limited, lots near the courthouse fill up, and festival weekends—SantaCaliGon Days in particular—change everything. If your move touches the Square, the Englewood Arts District, or the Truman Historic District, tell us the date early so we can start before tourist traffic or after evening restrictions.
Independence is a driving city. The corridors we actually use are I-70, I-470, Highway 291, 24 Highway, 40 Highway, and Noland Road. The Independence Transit Center at 401 N. Noland Road (64050) is a useful landmark when we stage near downtown. Blue Ridge Crossing around 40th Street (64055) and Centerpoint on 39th (64057) are the other two spots residents mention constantly.
Rush hour on I-70 between Independence and downtown Kansas City can eat a short local move. We would rather shift a start time than sit in traffic with a loaded truck. Same for 24 Highway and Noland at school release. Share both addresses and we will build drive time into the quote instead of pretending every Independence job is twenty minutes across town.
Landmarks help more than GPS pins. The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library, the Truman Home, the National Frontier Trails Museum, Independence Center, and the Events Center are all places customers use to describe where they live. We treat them as access clues: visitor lots that we cannot block, museum-day congestion, and which side of Noland we should approach from.
These eight ZIPs are the ones this page is built for. If yours is on the list, we already have a local plan for it.
64050 is the historic heart: Square, Transit Center, a lot of older housing. 64053 and 64054 pull in the Sugar Creek edge and 24 Highway. 64055 covers a lot of south-central Independence, including Blue Ridge Crossing. 64057 is the eastern civic and medical cluster. 64052, 64056, and 64058 fill the residential grid between Noland, 291, and the city limits.
We regularly work Independence Square, the Truman neighborhood, Englewood, Fairmount, the Noland Road corridor, and 39th Street. Nearby hops to Raytown, Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs, 18th and Vine, the River Market, and Liberty are normal for us. A local Independence move is often a few miles, not a cross-country load—but a few miles here can still mean a 1910 staircase on one end and a third-floor apartment on the other.
Before you compare quotes, decide whether you need the truck or only the labor. That single choice changes crew size, timing, and price.
Price is crew size, hours on site, stairs, elevator waits, how close the truck can park, drive time, and specialty items. A historic-core house with a long carry usually costs more than an east-side ranch with a two-car driveway, even if the square footage looks similar on paper. Packed boxes beat last-minute closet dumps. Mention pianos, gun safes, gym equipment, and oversized antiques when you book so we do not under-staff the job.
We quote after we know pickup, drop-off, floors, parking, and heavy items—not from a generic “two-bedroom” price on a national form. I-70 and Highway 291 time is part of the math if one address is in Independence and the other is in Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, or Liberty. Share both addresses up front so the number you see is the number you pay.
Independence runs its own electric utility, Independence Power & Light. If you are coming from Kansas City, Missouri, that surprises people. Start, stop, or transfer service through the city’s utility pages so you are not loading in the dark or leaving an account open. Pack and label rooms. Photograph existing wall marks in apartments. Keep pets in one closed room. Clear the walk. If you live near the Square, confirm you are not moving on a market or festival morning unless you have a plan for the truck.
For apartments, reserve the elevator if the lease requires it. For older Truman-neighborhood homes, measure the biggest piece against the tightest turn in the staircase. If it will not make the corner, we would rather know the night before than on the landing.
Eastern Jackson County is full of lead-gen sites that look local and then sell the job. When you compare Independence moving companies, ask three questions: Whose payroll is the crew on? Will the quote change after they see the stairs? Can you call the same office after move day? Book Local Movers answers those the same way every time. The people wrapping your furniture work for us. The quote includes the access you described. And if something needs a follow-up, you are talking to the company that did the work.
That is the standard we want on every Independence, MO job—Square walk-up, Noland Road apartment, or a clean east-side driveway in 64057. Get the addresses into a quote, send a couple of photos, and we will staff it with our own team.
